PRIVACY POLICY
To fulfill your order, you share certain personal information with me through Etsy. This includes your name, email address, Etsy username, and order details. Etsy may also share your mailing address with me, even though my products are digital downloads and nothing is shipped.
I may also collect information you choose to share when you message me through Etsy or by email, for example questions about a product or requests for help with a download.
I never receive or store your payment card details. Payments are processed by Etsy.
For more information about how Etsy handles your data, please see Etsy's Privacy Policy.
Why I need your information and how I use it
I rely on the following legal bases under the GDPR to collect and use your personal information:
• To fulfill our contract (Article 6(1)(b)): I use your information to process your order, give you access to your digital files, answer your questions, and help if there is a problem with your download.
• To meet my legal obligations (Article 6(1)(c)): I keep order and payment records to meet tax and accounting requirements.
• For my legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)): I may use your information to prevent fraud, protect my intellectual property (for example, to address unauthorized sharing or resale of my files), and improve my shop and products.
• With your consent (Article 6(1)(a)): Mailing list — only if you sign up, I will email you updates about new products, free resources, or interpreter training. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email or by contacting me. I will never add you to a list just because you made a purchase.
I do not sell your personal information, and I do not use it for automated decision-making or profiling.
Information sharing and disclosure
Protecting your information is important to me. I share your personal information only in these limited cases:
• Etsy. Etsy processes your order and payment and gives me the information I need to fulfill it. Etsy is an independent controller of your data under its own Privacy Policy.
• Service providers. I use a small number of trusted tools to run my business, such as my email provider [e.g., Google Workspace/Gmail] and, only if you signed up, my email marketing platform [name]. They process data only on my instructions and are required to keep it secure.
• Professional advisors. I may share limited order information with my accountant or legal advisors when needed to meet my obligations.
• When required by law. I may disclose information if a court, tax authority, or other government body requires it, or if needed to protect my rights or someone's safety.
• Business transfers. If my business is sold, merged, or restructured, your information may be transferred to the new owner, who will be bound by this policy.
Data retention
I keep your personal information only as long as I need it:
• Order and transaction records: up to 7 years after your purchase, to meet U.S. tax and accounting requirements.
• Messages and support requests: up to 2 years after our last communication, unless an issue is still open.
• Mailing list information: until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete it.
After these periods, I securely delete your information.
Transfers of personal information outside the EU
I am based in the United States, so your personal information will be stored and processed in the U.S., where data protection laws may differ from those in your country. When your information is transferred from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, I rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK equivalent) or other lawful transfer mechanisms used by the service providers I work with, including Etsy.
Your rights
If you are in the EEA, the UK, or another region with similar laws, you have the following rights regarding your personal information:
• Access: request a copy of the personal information I hold about you.
• Correction: ask me to correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
• Deletion: ask me to delete your information. Some records must be kept for tax or legal reasons, and I'll tell you if that applies.
• Restriction: ask me to limit how I use your information.
• Portability: request your information in a commonly used, machine-readable format.
• Objection: object to my use of your information based on legitimate interests, including direct marketing.
• Withdraw consent: where I rely on your consent (such as my mailing list), you can withdraw it at any time. This does not affect anything I did before you withdrew it.
• Complaint: file a complaint with your local data protection authority. In the UK, this is the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
To exercise any of these rights, contact me using the details below. I will respond within one month. I may ask you to confirm your identity before acting on a request. There is no fee for making a request.
